PROJECT

By taking a step back from the conventional point-of-view, one can shed light on the bigger picture

"Light Outside the Box" is a take on the saying "think outside the box" which entails thinking creatively from a new perspective. This interactive light sculpture is designed to look different from every angle. The structure reflects the clean-cut, conventional and urban box culture in our society today. Hidden inside the structure are the circuit electronics. The strong LEDs cast shadows off the structure, and onto the floor and walls surrounding it. Viewers are able to walk around the piece to cast shadows of their own. The LED strips become dimmer as people approach the sculpture. This demonstrates how humans are compelled to the conventional, and how we see less when we are only in the presence of the conventional - we are not able to see the bigger picture or think creatively. This is reflected literally as the LED goes darker, and the viewer is not able to see any shadow effects anymore because they are too close to the sculpture.
